Google Maps goes physical, Gavin Newsom doing product endorsements

Walking to my client’s place this morning, I couldn’t help but wonder what-the-hell-is-that? as I approached the cafe:

So Google is doing physical, even 3-dimensional advertising here in SF. Nicely done.

But should we be concerned that Gavin Newsom – SF mayor and California gubernatorial candidate – is endorsing a product?
